Angelica Atzin Garcia

Painting is the best way to feel real, it is the moment when all your memories come together and start to sing to you that old symphony, it s the moment when your thoughts start to tell you the story of your surroundings, and it is the only moment that you can talk with yourself and fix those old misunderstandings. In other words painting is when you are free and time stops just to let you enjoy the happiness of be free. Unfortunately, nothing is forever, and in the moment time decides to stop this beautiful reality, you come back to this fantasy that we call daily life, where everything is so ironic, unfair and unnecessary. This is why I paint, because the painting lets me be free inside myself for a while. My work as a painter is to show what is between that fantasy and the reality in the words of the colors, my work is to share with the viewer my happy moment, so that the viewer can become part of it, and be able to enjoy it as much as I did.

In the work of making art, the feelings take the control of the work and they decide the material to use. I cannot reject, just obey, because in my inner self, I know as much as they, that this is the best way to truly represent what is inside.

My goal as the speaker of my artwork is to make the viewer feel part of the artwork, I want them to identify with what they see, and get caught with the feeling, event or segment that is being presented in front of their eyes.  I want to make this connection global, and get into a point where I can make millions of people feel an emotion as strong as I feel it every time I paint.

What else can an artist talk about if it is not his situation? That is,I paint all around me, but in the way that my feelings see it, touch it, smell it, hear it and taste it. I talk about the moment when the curtain is falling down and all we can see is the truth hiding behind a black shape, I use the intensity of the colors to paint over that shape, making a connection between the reality and the emotions, creating a social critique showed in a color field.

My paintings will always talk about my point of view of the global issues, or at least my philosophy about life will be always represented in a symbolic way, I admit my strongest tool is the use of colors and value, because it is the way I make a stronger connection with the viewer’s thoughts, and emotions. Additionally, the use a bigger size of canvas creates a greater impact in the viewer’s perspective and makes them feel they belong to the painting.

The conclusion of my brief artist’s statement is that my entire self is marked all over my artwork. Even though I tried to describe it, is almost impossible to talk about it, because it is strong enough to talk by it own.
