Visit up to eight artists’ studios in the heart of Pilsen during our 10th year anniversary celebration of 18th St. PIlsen Open Studios. Don’t worry about driving or parking — spend more time in the galleries!

Local artists will serve as guides to provide commentary on the galleries and history of Pilsen and to answer questions on the tours. Each trip should last approximately two hours.

Meet at the Colibri Gallery to begin your scheduled tour. Present your voucher as valid admission for one person. Tour dates and times cannot be exchanged.

Pilsen Mural Walks

During the 1920s and ’30s the social commentary and revitalization of the Italian Renaissance fresco style of Mexican muralists Diego Rivera, Jose Clemente Orozco, and David Alfaro Siqueiros influenced many WPA artists who combined the creativity of the new art movement with the values of the American people. This program looks at the legacy of this profound cross-cultural relationship.

Enjoy these special walking tours of this artistically rich community while learning about the murals that have been created in the area since the early ‘70s by Mexican and Mexican-American artists. The event is part of the annual Pilsen Open Studios where local artists welcome the public into their workspace.

October 20 & 21 2012

Pilsen Open Studios is an annual art walk independently produced by local artists and volunteers, that is also one of the premier events of the citywide Chicago Artists Month. It will be the weekend of October 20-21, 2012, taking place in various locations along Pilsen’s 18th Street Corridor.
